Wikipedia Follow-Up

Around a month ago, I was browsing and I found something about iPhoneography on Wikipedia. I edited some sentences and I improved them by adding some details. I just visited that page and no one changed what I added. I am not sure if what I added was right or not. I think no one changed what I did because:

  1. People agreed with what I added
  2. No many people visited the page
  3. maybe not enough time passed between my first visit and my second visit
  4. May be people don’t trust Wikipedia that much
  5. Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook also have this information with the ability to discuss it with the person who published it
  6. The Wikipedia's information can be reached in resources better than Wikipedia
  7. Some people prefer hard copy resources

Wikipedia is not the best resource because anybody can edit and add information to an article. In my opinion, we can use Wikipedia, but we have to double check its information.

Still Not Satisfied? Continued

In the first Still Not Satisfied post, I told you how it would be easy to add details and give meaning to your picture using two simple techniques, namely, writing and framing. Despite doing this, some of you may not be satisfied with the result? Maybe the picture is too bright, or if you took the photo at night, the red eye effect is making people appear like ghosts. You may even want to remove the background of the picture or remove something that doesn't make the picture look good. Well, adjust brightness, fix the red eye, change your background, and remove a specific thing that makes the photo look bad are more advanced levels, but they will go a great length into fine tuning the picture.

The first thing noticeable is whether the picture is bright or dark. You can either increase the brightness or decrease it. However, if you want it to be normal, you can use the auto adjust feature by not tapping on the screen. You can remove the original background and put something like a beach or a mountain. Finally you can remove some elements of the picture by cropping it.

Good news!! using these features requires nothing. To adjust brightness, you can use the Snapseed app and you can learn how to use it in this link. With Adobe Photoshop Express, you can easily fix the red eye.  If you want to change your background, PicsArt and Adobe Photoshop Touch will do that for you. They work perfect; I have tried them. Also, sometimes there is somethings that was in the picture that you did not want. You can remove a specific thing that makes the photo look bad by using Retouch app. The picture below is the result of using Retouch app.

These apps will make you more satisfied with your pictures. They have a lot of options that you need to get a great shot. With the iPhone apps, you will not need to use PhotoShop on your computer to make your picture look awesome. Just Google whatever you need and you will get it on your iPhone.

Squaready

We all know that Instagram is the best platform for sharing photos, so I think it is kind of wasting time to talk about it because we already use it. Instagram supports the square photo which is 1:1, but that format is not appropriate with some photos. Sometimes if we crop the picture, we will lose its beauty. For example, I need to post the entire length of this photo because making it square will not work well with this kind of image.

Here I want to post all the details in the image and the crop will exclude that, but Squaready app will let you to do that in a very simple way. It will place the picture in a white square so when you post it on Instagram, you will have all of it. here is an example of cropped and the square via the app:

Having a full image is important because you will have everything that you captured before. When people have the original size image, it is important because you will see everything you want to.

Still Not Satisfied!!

No matter how good a photo they shoot, some people don’t always feel satisfied. There is always the sense that there is something missing in the photo and no matter how perfect it is one can never imagine it to be complete. Well, Ok, I have a great idea for you. There are 2 more things that you can do with your photos to give them that final touch you are looking for:

1. Writing

Writing is the most common way to add meaning to a photo. There are many things that someone can write in a photo. It can be reveal who is in the photo and where it was taken. It may be as complicated as adding message or some information that inspires a person looking at the photo. This message or text usually adds much more meaning or their meaning is enhanced by the photo. Here are some examples:

Here are some of the apps that can be used for writing in English

Here are some of the apps that can be used for writing in Arabic

2. Framing

Framing is another important way to complete a photo. It can be as simple as adding a custom frame or mixing a couple of photos together to create an effect that triggers different emotions, as shown in the photos below:

Here are some of the apps that can be used for framing

Adding text to a picture and framing it are some of the simplest ways to complete the photograph and give the photographer desired satisfaction. There are also other applications that can be used for writing and framing.

Yes, For The iPhone Camera Too

When we talk about cameras, all there is is lenses. It is the lenses that allow the picture to be taken because it allows transmission and refraction of light. After all the light trickery has been done the picture is captured on a screen when the shutter cuts off the light. There are several types of lenses which are explained below:

1. Telephoto Lens

Telephoto Lens is a long focus lens whose physical length is shorter than its focal length. A telephoto lens works by creating a longer focal length for the main lens and thus images appear to have been created from a greater focal length lens. It is usually used as an accessory and is common in the photography and film industries. The picture of the Chrysler Building is an example of this kind of lens.

2. Fisheye Lens

A fish eye lens is a lens with a very wide angle of view usually used to create panoramic views or commonly referred to as a hemisphere image. This lens was mass produced in the early 60s and is usually used for photography.

3. Wide-Angle Lens

This is a lens whose focal length is usually smaller than that of a normal lens. It is mostly used to concentrate much detail in a relatively small photograph. It is very difficult to use and therefore requires learning.

4. Macro Lens

Macro lenses are lenses with greater reproduction ratio. They are used to capture very small objects and magnify them. They are capable of greater than 1:1 ratio. They are usually preferred for scientific photography.

Different lenses are used for different applications. If one wants to achieve a certain type of photography or film, the lens is the main determining factor.
